News Playout
Neptune offers a fast dynamic MOS interface to newsroom systems such as ENPS, iNews, Norcom, Octopus and ANNOVA Systems' OpenMedia.
Neptune supports a play/preview mode of operation using two or more decoders to allow production staff to see any number of upcoming stories. The playlist is linked directly through MOS to the Run Down list in the Newsroom system and any updates in the newsroom are immediately reflected in the Neptune system. The Playlist can be stepped manually to the next event allowing operators to manage playout according to the pace of the programme either directly through the user interface or using remote GPIs to trigger the playlist.
A News List is also available which unlike a sequential playlist allows the sequence of stories to be determined by the Neptune system interface. The News List is populated through its MOS interface but the sequence of events is controlled at the point of playout. Events can be gang rolled, trimmed and played in any order.
On-air reliability is key with News programmes and Neptune offers a redundancy scheme known as on-air focus where multiple play/preview decoders are protected against failure by a single backup decoder that mirrors whatever content is being played.
A comprehensive range of ingest options are available including direct VTR control, scheduled recording of live feeds as well as the automatic detection and registration of content delivered using FTP.
Anchor Media Manager can also be deployed to provide a low resolution workflow to assist with News production allowing operators to view content while it is still being ingested, produce fast cuts only edited stories and pass these directly for playout or to higher level editing systems for final finishing.
Customers can integrate their standard programme playout and news playout under the same control system. Users can exploit Neptune's highly configurable user interface to suit their requirements and switch quickly between control of standard and news style programming.
