Pebble releases trading update for the year ending 31st December 2021

Revenue up 26%, order intake up 75%

Weybridge, Surrey, 26 January 2022 – Pebble Beach Systems Group plc release a trading update today, announcing that it expects to report 2021 results significantly ahead of market expectations. Revenue was approximately £10.6m up 26% on the 2020 result, whilst orders were up 75% at £13.7m (which includes £1.5m of orders delayed from 2020 due to Covid).

Broadcast automation and integrated channel specialist Pebble has performed strongly through the Covid pandemic despite delays in the supply chain and customers requiring more time before giving the green light to projects. Pebble will continue to increase investment in its technology through the development of new products and solutions to support broadcasters as they transition from traditional broadcast infrastructure to more flexible IP-based technologies.

In the update the plc Board stated that it remains confident about the Group’s future and looks forward to providing a further update in the audited results for the year ended 31 December 2021, the release date for which will be announced in due course.

John Varney, Non-Executive Chairman, commented:

“The Board is delighted to see this excellent performance from Pebble for 2021. The results are a validation of the Group’s new remote working model and of the efforts by management to mitigate delays in the hardware supply chain due to chip shortages, ensuring a particularly strong final quarter.”

Peter Mayhead, CEO, said:

“Our 2021 performance is a reflection of the incredible hard work of our teams and their collaborative efforts, and I am particularly proud of how the company has successfully navigated the challenges that the global pandemic had presented.

We move into 2022 with a number of great initiatives underway, including the ongoing voyage into remote working as we continue with our plans to transition to a fully remote business.

Our focus continues on the investment in R&D, forging our way as a market leading organisation with plans for strong growth and expansion to build on the success of 2021.”

Business Transformation was THE hot topic at this season’s round of in-person and virtual events and conferences, and rightly so. Speaker after speaker shared how their media organisation or technology company had to adapt, whilst exploring how to ensure that the best of those adaptations endure beyond the current pandemic. We will always remember what the global pandemic has taught those of us who have the privilege to work in broadcast. We adapted quickly, and there have been many days when we’ve had to turn on a dime, but collectively we found new solutions. And many of those solutions have taken the industry forward and will generate lasting change. We’ve had to think more innovatively than ever before. We’ve changed the way we work, and ‘Remote’ is the new mantra.

The future of automation

Newscast Studio Column

Written by David Kicks, VP of Sales for The Americas

Determining where broadcast automation is headed next is much like taking a deep dive in the ocean. There are so many new levels to explore, challenges to encounter and opportunities for uncovering previously buried treasure.

In our previous articles, we discussed the current state of broadcast automation, the transition from SDI to IP infrastructures, the practicality of maintaining a hybrid environment and the art of automation as global ad spend on linear TV has bounced back, reinforcing the enduring influence of linear TV.

With all that to consider, what will the broadcast automation technology of the future require?

Many industry reports forecast the global broadcast automation software market is estimated to see exponential annual growth over the next decade. This will be driven by a range of factors, especially user demand for more diverse content, the increasing popularity of on-demand streaming platforms and changing consumer viewing behaviors including the use of more mobile devices as a primary or secondary viewing option.

So if we were to design the ideal automation platform of the future — think of it as our wish list — what’s to be included?

Pebble wins GOLD at Digital Media World Awards

We are delighted to announce that our latest solution – Pebble Control – has won the gold award for the IP Broadcast Solution category at the 2021 Digital Media World Awards.

Now in its fifth year, the 2021 DMW Awards attracted a huge range of products and services that show the many changes that have occurred in the broadcast industry this past year. According to Digital Media World, cloud services and virtualisation, including remote production and post, IP transformation and AI/ML applications are still among the strongest trends. While the rate of development and the direction those trends are taking continue to be influenced by the COVID pandemic, the IP Broadcast Solutions category was a competitive one, with many vendors having launched new solutions in the IP broadcasting space last year, which makes it such a brilliant win for us.

Pebble Control makes IP connectivity as simple as SDI, serving as an IP connection management system which would enable users to make the leap to an all IP facility. Self-contained, scalable, IP-native, Pebble Control is easy to configure, deploy and operate using web-based UI’s, and leverages open standards and interfaces with NMOS-enabled devices.

Well done to our teams at Pebble who have worked really hard to bring this solution to the market.
